Chin Augmentation

If you're considering breast augmentation...

Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breast for a number of reasons:

If you're considering Chin Augmentation...

Chin implants can increase the size and projection of a small or recessed chin, one that in profile does not project evenly with or beyond the forehead and mid-face.

The best candidates for Chin Augmentation

Plastic Surgery with facial implants is best performed on adults or individuals whose head and skull have reached physical maturity, which generally occurs in late adolescence. Healthy individuals and Non-smokers with a positive outlook are best candidates for facial implant surgery. All surgery carries some uncertainty and risk.

Dr. Joseph Berg is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Planning your surgery

A consultation with Dr. Berg is the first step to learn how facial implants can improve the structural appearance of your face. In a consultation Dr. Berg will fully educate you and will discuss your goals and options available.

Preparing for your surgery

Dr. Joseph Berg will carefully explain the facial implant procedure you will undergo. Prior to your procedure you will be given specific instructions. You will be asked to sign consent forms and be given specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications. Some surgeons suggest that their patients diet before the operation.

While you're making preparations, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and to help you out for a few days if needed.

Where your surgery will be performed

Chin Augmentation is generally performed in a hospital, or Surgical Center on an out-patient basis using anesthesia.

Type of anesthesia

Anesthesia may include local, sedation, or general anesthesia. The decision for anesthesia will be based on the requirements of your specific procedure. Dr. Berg and his assisting staff will fully attend to your comfort and safety.

After your surgery

Once your procedure is complete, bandages, dressings and steri-strip closures will be applied to cover any incisions and to support the position of the implant during initial healing. You may have to wear a head bandage for the first week following surgery to help with swelling and placement of the implant. Initial healing may include swelling or numbness, and discomfort that can be controlled with medication. In addition, facial movements may be somewhat restricted or impaired. These are common conditions. A return to light, normal activity is possible as soon as you feel ready. Healing will continue for several weeks, as swelling dissipates and tissue surrounding the implant heals Continue to follow instructions and return for follow-up visits as scheduled.
